UNICO Broadband

The objective of the UNICO Broadband Program is to extend the coverage of ultra-fast broadband access networks, aiming to reach 100% of the Spanish population. It also seeks to strengthen the terrestrial and submarine interconnection of public entities.

The Program includes a series of calls for aid aiming to serve as vectors of territorial cohesion and framework for other calls and solutions that will complete the universalization of access to ultrafast broadband throughout the territory. This will improve the functionality and quality of the digital services necessary for a complete digital transformation, and thus increase the welfare and quality of life of citizens, contributing to the success of a sustainable growth model based on the Gigabit society.

These calls are structured in the following actions:

  • UNICO Broadband Access, which aims to guarantee symmetrical speeds of 300 Mbps, upgradeable to symmetrical speeds of 1 Gbps (gigabit per second) in areas without broadband coverage (white areas and in grey areas).
  • UNICO Broadband Terrestrial Interconnection, which aims to extend connectivity to 1 Gbps (or higher) to public entities, including training centers, research centers and defense connectivity networks.
  • UNICO Broadband Submarine Interconnection, which aims to expand connectivity performance by increasing capacity in submarine interconnection cables for public entities, including research centers, regional governments, and defense connectivity networks.
