Digital Spain 2026: the agenda renews its commitment to the country's digital transformation

Digital Spain 2026 is the update of the strategy launched in July 2020 as the country's digital transformation roadmap. Since its presentation, Spain's Recovery Plan has been approved, eight specific plans for its deployment have been published, the main investment programmes have been launched at national, regional, and local level, and decisive progress has been made in structural reforms.

Two years after the publication of Digital Spain, it is time to take stock of the progress made, update the strategy with the 2026 horizon to synchronise it with the Recovery Plan, and set out the priorities for the coming months.

State investment in the period 2021- 2022 to deploy Digital Spain will be almost nine times the investment in digitalisation in the period 2019-2020, driving a real technological leap forward with a medium-term impact.

A humanist agenda for the future

Digital Spain has a clear strategic vision for the future, and the ambition to carry out a humanistic and inclusive digital transformation process, placing people at the centre. This ambition is fully aligned with the EU Digital Compass, the reference framework that should guide the EU's digital transformation until 2030.

The investments foreseen in the Digital Spain agenda to achieve a humanistic digitalization will now be reinforced with the additional transfers from the Recovery Plan and the appropriations allocated from the European Next Generation EU funds.

How is Digital Spain 2026 structured?

Digital Spain 2026 is conceived as an ambitious and consistent strategy that operates across three dimensions: infrastructure and technology, economy, and people. The agenda maintains the ten strategic axes of its initial version, adding two new cross-cutting axes to promote high-impact strategic projects through public-private collaboration and joint governance of the Nation and Autonomous Regions.
