Digital and sustainable transformation of public transportation

Active mobility solutions (walking, cycling) and public transport are the most environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable transport options. Therefore, it is necessary to encourage the transformation of this system, making these solutions more attractive to potential users.

Firstly, support will be given to various investments to be made by Local Entities or Autonomous Communities, as well as by public and private companies providing public transport services, aimed at the design and implementation of low-emission zones, measures for the sustainable and digital transformation of the public transport system, promotion of active mobility and other complementary measures whose final objective is to reduce the use of private vehicles.

On the other hand, actions will be carried out to improve the quality and reliability of the commuter rail service, through investments in digitalization that will be undertaken mainly by RENFE (operator of rail services with public service obligation). In addition to the improvement of infrastructures, investments of 118.5 million Euros will be completed in the digitalization of security, information, and access control systems of the railway stations with public service obligation.
