It is a challenge to improve citizens and businesses' ability to identify themselves easily and effectively to the Administration. To achieve this, the new digital identity model has a twofold objective:
- Development of systems and services that enable digital accreditation in a 100% telematic and secure way.
- Development of new simple, secure, and usable identification and signature systems in line with the applicable regulations in this area.
This model should also allow for the evolution and promotion of the Spanish eIDAS node. This is the interoperability component that connects national electronic services and identification systems with the corresponding nodes in other Member States and allows the recognition of electronic identities issued by other countries in accordance with the European eIDAS Regulation.
The Spanish eIDAS node is based on the implementation of the technical specifications set out in the Regulation and uses a message exchange system in accordance with the Security Assertion Markup Language 2.0 (SAML) standard. For Public Administrations, integration with the Spanish eIDAS node is carried out through the Cl@ve system.
Likewise, the existing mechanisms (electronic certificates and Cl@ve) will evolve to adapt them to the European context and facilitate their reuse and interoperability by all Spanish public administrations. In this regard, the DNIe project on mobile phones, led by the Ministry of the Interior, is very relevant, as it will transform the relationship between citizens and the public administration, allowing more accessible, agile, and secure access, verification, and processing of information.
